The challenge

The trust needed 300 new volunteers and had a budget smaller than most wedding photographers. People walked the towpath every day without knowing anyone looked after it.

02

The idea

We put the volunteers in charge of the story. Twelve short films, each filmed on a phone along the route, with a mile marker at the end and a link to sign up for that stretch. Posters went up on the towpath itself, at the exact spot each film was shot.

The result

4,800 volunteer hours pledged in three months, against a target of 1,500. The films have been watched more than 600,000 times, mostly by people who live within a mile of the canal.
